IWCF - Well control Preparation

PREPARATION FOR WELL CONTROL CERTIFICATION - LEVEL 3 - SURFACE & SUBSEA

PUBLIC

This course is aimed at drilling personnel wishing to obtain IWCF blowout control certification.

prerequisites

The candidate must have basic technical knowledge of the oil industry and initial experience on site. They must be able to read, calculate and know professional vocabulary.

Well Control Level 2 certification obtained

OBJECTIVES

  • Obtain the fundamentals of mathematics and physics applied to drilling
  • Understand the relationships between pressures in the circulating well
  • Recognising the causes and signs of kicks
  • Prepare preliminary calculations to control the arrival of the kick
  • Handling the simulator for the case study
  • Preparing for IWCF Level 3 certification (Driller)

  • Geometry and simple surfaces

PHYSICS APPLIED TO DRILLING

  • Forces / torque
  • Power / efficiency
  • Pressures / hydrostatic pressure / pressure drop
  • Floatability
  • Systems of units

DETECTION OF A KICK

  • Relationships between pressures in the circulating well
  • Gas law
  • Pore pressure / detection of abnormal pressures / LOT and Padm
  • Causes and signs of kicks
  • Well closure procedures
  • Preliminary calculations (killsheet)

INTRODUCTION TO WELL CONTROL METHODS

  • Principles and procedures
  • Drillers, Wait and Weight, Volumetrics

 

INTRODUCTION TO THE SIMULATOR

  • Explanation of how the simulator works
  • Demonstration of a kick during drilling and its controlled evacuation from the well

ASSESSMENT OF SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Supervised evaluation questionnaire
  • Group correction and debriefing
